Two ways of working,
chosen for fit, not fashion.
Both approaches below are evidence-based and time-tested. In practice they overlap — we'll lean on whichever fits the texture of what you're carrying that week.
DBT was originally developed by Marsha Linehan for clients who felt consistently flooded — by feelings, by relationships, by the gap between intention and behavior. The framework has since spread because it works for a much wider audience: anyone who'd benefit from better tools for hard moments.
Skill set 01
Mindfulness
Noticing what's actually happening — in the body, in the room, in the conversation — instead of the story we've spun about it.
Skill set 02
Distress tolerance
Riding waves you can't make go away. The micro-skills here keep painful moments from turning into damaging ones.
Skill set 03
Emotion regulation
Fewer 0-to-100 hijacks. We work on noticing earlier, naming better, and choosing what to do with the feeling.
Skill set 04
Interpersonal effectiveness
Asking, refusing, repairing. Practical scripts for the conversations we usually rehearse and then avoid.
Self-compassion is often misunderstood as letting yourself off the hook. It's not. It's the practice of speaking to yourself the way you'd speak to a friend in the same situation — and discovering that this gentler voice tends to produce more change, not less.
Element 01
Self-kindness
Replacing reflexive self-criticism with the same warmth we extend, almost automatically, to others.
Element 02
Common humanity
Naming the part of suffering that is universal. Struggle is not evidence of being uniquely broken.
Element 03
Mindful presence
Staying with what's painful without exaggerating it or pushing it away. The opposite of rumination.
Element 04
Fierce compassion
Kindness with a backbone — the part that says no, sets limits, and protects the version of you trying to grow.
